Vaccination: Adverse Effects Previous Next

Reports from the United States suggest there may be a side effect of the leukaemia vaccination which is more disturbing than the transitory "off colour" for a day or so. A small number of vaccinated cats have developed cancerous growths at the vaccination site between the shoulder blades. Veterinary Surgeons don't know exactly why, but the theories include some effect of the vaccine, particularly the FeLV component, the mixing of different components or the actual physical process of injection. The problem is rarely recognised in the United Kingdom but is something the Veterinary Surgeons are monitoring.

The risk from the diseases is greater than any possible adverse side effect, the current advice is to continue vaccinating but to vary the vaccine injection each year.
